On the 21st March, Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen delivered an unforgettable performance at the Historischer Reitstadel Neumarkt, sharing the stage with Christian Poltéra, Esther Hoppe, Lars Anders Tomter and Janne Saksala in a stunning programme of Fauré and Schubert.

Critics were unanimous in their praise. Neumarkt Stadt wrote, “One cannot (and does not want to) make any critical remarks: After the interval, Juho Pohjonen commands the attention of all the players at the piano; everything sounds just right for him: bright and clear, as if he were flowing along one of the famous Romantic ‘brooks.’”

His refined touch and musical sensitivity were further highlighted by Mittelbayerische Zeitung, which noted, “Pianist Juho Pohjonen has mastered the art of playing even the most full-handed passages very quietly, thus creating a kind of harmonic fluid without drowning out his string colleagues.”

The evening’s repertoire featured Fauré’s Élégie and Sicilienne for Cello and Piano, Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor, Op. 45, and Schubert’s beloved ‘Trout’ Quintet.
