Andrew Litton Embarks on European Tour

Between February and April, American conductor Andrew Litton is set for a busy schedule across Europe, leading a series of performances with prestigious orchestras in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Germany.
Starting in the Netherlands with Philzuid, Litton conducts three concerts in Maastricht (February 14), Eindhoven (February 15), and Den Bosch (February 16). The programme features Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Barber’s Violin Concerto with soloist Lei Wang and Shostakovich’s Symphony No.9.
Then travelling to Spain, Litton will lead performances with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia in A Coruña’s Palacio de la Opera (February 28) and Bilbao’s Palacio Euskalduna (March 7, 8 & 9). The programmes include Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Bizet’s Symphony No. 1, three works by Ravel: Valses Nobles et Sentimentales, La Valse and Boléro, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
Continuing to Milan, he will conduct two performances on March 14 and 15 at Auditorium Fondazione Cariplo with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano. The all-Prokofiev programme features the Overture from War and Peace, the Piano Concerto No. 2, performed by pianist Alessandro Taverna, and Symphony No. 4.
Litton’s European tour concludes with four weeks in Munich, conducting the Bayerisches Staatsballett in a special six-performance series of Wings of Memory (April 10-16). The three-part programme features Pina Bausch’s iconic interpretation of Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Faun, set to music by Claude Debussy and Nitin Sawhney, and Jiří Kylián’s Bella Figura.
