Music Director Carlos Izcaray will open the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s 2024/25 season this evening in a performance at the UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. The concert will open with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, described by Shostakovich as “festive or celebrative in spirit,” the work will fittingly launch Izcaray’s 10th season with the Orchestra. The celebratory programme will also include Barber’s Violin Concerto with soloist Amaryn Olmeda and conclude with Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony No. 3 with award-winning American organist, Patrick Scott.
Reflecting on his tenure so far Izcaray comments, ‘Serving as Music Director of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra over the last decade has been one of the most enriching experiences in my musical career. I cherish every performance we’ve given during this period, and I look forward to many more in our future together.

The programme will also be repeated on Saturday 28 September, visit ASO’s website for tickets and further information.
