This evening, British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor takes to the stage of the Royal Albert Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, The Rodolfus Choir, and conductor Edward Gardner for Busoni’s Piano Concerto. Marking one hundred years since the death of Ferruccio Busoni, himself a notable piano virtuoso, and thirty-six years to the day since it was last performed at the BBC Proms, this mammoth work makes extraordinary demands of its enormous forces, not least, at its centre, the piano and pianist in one of the most challenging parts ever committed to paper. Having made his debut on the first night of the BBC Proms in 2011 and appeared on many occasions since, Grosvenor looks forward to this much anticipated return.

You can hear Benjamin in conversation about this amazing work on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, with Tom Service on BBC Radio 3’s Saturday Morning show, and read a detailed article he wrote on the piece for The Guardian here.
