A Tudor Trilogy: Enrique Mazzola conducts ‘Roberto Devereux’ in Amsterdam
This evening, Maestro Mazzola conducts the opening night of Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux at the Nationale Opera Amsterdam with performances running until 6th May.
Having previously conducted Anna Bolena and Maria Stuarda in Amsterdam, Mazzola returns to complete the Tudor trilogy with Roberto Devereux. Mazzola is joined in the pit by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Director Jetske Mijnssen returns to direct the opera. Barno Ismatullaeva sings the demanding role of Elizabeth, and Angela Brower the role of Sara Nottingham (the rival in love). Ismael Jordi will once again take on the tenor title role in this trilogy’s concluding opera.
Later this season Mazzola returns to Bregenz Festival for Weber Der Freischütz and next season opens with productions of Verdi’s Rigoletto and Beethoven’s Fidelio at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, with whom he has recently renewed his partnership as Music Director to 2031.
