Release Day: Alpesh Chauhan’s ‘Tchaikovsky’
“Chauhan proves … that he loves Tchaikovsky and is not afraid to show it.” (Gramophone)
British conductor Alpesh Chauhan’s latest album is released on Chandos Records today. The second of the series, Alpesh and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, with whom Alpesh enjoys a special relationship, continue to explore the rich canon of Tchaikovsky’s orchestral works, here combining well-known Tchaikovsky with that less so. This follows Chandos’ release of the first volume in June 2023, Alpesh’s debut album with the orchestra on the label. “Spellbinding Tchaikovsky packs an emotional punch — Alpesh Chauhan evidently has a tremendous flair for Tchaikovsky. Supported by stunningly responsive playing from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, his interpretations brilliantly project the music’s theatrical excitement as well as its subtle and sophisticated orchestration.” (BBC Music Magazine)
This week, Alpesh takes Tchaikovsky to the US for his much-anticipated debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Further engagements include his return to Düsseldorfer Symphoniker at the Tonhalle as well as Elgar, Shostakovich, and Beethoven “down under” with West Australian Symphony Orchestra in Perth Concert Hall.
